Manipulating text on small touch screen devices in a satisfying way is still a problem that has yet to be solved. Some developers adapt technologies that were originally invented for hardware keyboards like buttons that move your cursor by single characters. But the success of iOS builds upon the paradigm of direct input and buttons that mimick a hardware keyboard don’t live up to these standards.

With Thoughts 2 we tried to solve these problems a little differently. Your text cursor is always accompanied by a so called text grabber. You can tap and hold that grabber in order to move the cursor. For finer grained control you can also tap the arrows on the grabber.

In order to select a word, double-tap on it. As you can see, another text grabber appears. Modify the selection by dragging or tapping the grabbers.

By swiping from right to left, you can reveal the edit menu. There’s copy, paste, undo and redo right at your fingertips.
