Deafalarm
Deafalarm gives the Deaf community and earplug users peace of mind while sleeping: It stays up all night, running in the background and listening out for loud, repetitive noises like fire alarms which it warns you about by vibrating.

With the latest update, it's also very useful when you're not sleeping: It allows you to "see" sound, thanks to a number of visual cues, including an audio graph, a decibel meter, and a logo that doubles as an attention-getter, changing from black to bright red when it hears a sound significantly louder than the normal ambient noise. Urgent things such as alarms, ringing phones, and screams may also ignite your device's camera flash so it can get your attention from a distance.

Deafalarm has an important automatic calibration feature that it uses to detect the ambient noise level to expect from your environment. You can also change the sensitivity and *manually* define what you consider loud by adjusting the slider.

It's thoughtfully designed to vibrate if your phone turns off (due to low battery) or the app is killed unintentionally while it was active so you know you're no longer being protected. (This is particularly nice to have when you're asleep.)

Rest assured: You don't have to worry about privacy when using Deafalarm. Detailed audio data is not saved for longer than a second, and it's only used to determine how loud the environment is. Deafalarm does not connect to the Internet whatsoever.

Deafalarm has been featured and acclaimed by a number of popular websites, including MedGadget and Gizmodo. It was also featured by MacFormat, a popular print magazine in the UK, and named one of the best apps for the deaf and hearing impaired by appPicker!
